To live your life with ‪#‎nofilter‬ takes some real bravery

When working in a corporate world to take the looks every day as new people meet you – wondering what language to use, or what to call you – because surely *you* can’t be a consultant looking like that in a suit.

To nail every interview and be told in a follow up call “a great candidate but not a culture fit” for 3 months and take a crappy job in a shit hole because it’s the only place that’ll employ you.

To risk being challenged every time you go to the bathroom – because you hate the smell of the mens, but the women sometimes give you stares or ask why you are there.

To have to choose where you stand in the changing room because if you are partially dressed it causes confusion for the women walking in

To have to choose between working in a corporate environment so they can eat and live and do some activism, or working in a more “queer” environment and focus only on survival. Because the class you grew up in matters, working class queers don’t usually have a family safety net to fall into when times are tough.

To live by my motto (and artists statement) “If we are not visible we cannot demand the world makes space for us” is harder when you work in places that don’t really want to make that space, because you are a bit beyond their idea of diversity.

So yes, celebrate those who live completely with #nofilter – who say what they want and live outside of the heteronormative, cis normative, gender binary, chrono normative consumerist, capitalist mainstream, who not only desire to make things right, but stay in peoples faces and demands change, and make things change

And Support them!

Support those who have chosen to not toe the mainstream line, who get in everyone’s face. Support the artists, the freaks, the weirdos, wherever you find them. Especially when they are sitting at the corporate table across from you.
